Post-Surgical Scar Treatment

Before the treatment, candidates must follow the below instructions:

• Schedule a consultation to discuss your medical history
• Inform about any allergies, medications, or previous treatments.
• Avoid sun exposure and apply a well-prescribed sunblock
• Do not smoke or drink for 7 to 14 days.
• Avoid taking blood thinners
• Keep the treatment area clean.

1. In the first step, the dermatologist identifies the scar.
2. The skin is then cleaned with an antiseptic or sterile solution.
3. The skin is then numbed to the treatment area.
4. To protect the eyes from the laser, if there is a scar on the face, the eyes are covered with an eye protection patch.
5. The laser device is then adjusted according to the patient’s skin condition and the location of the scar, as the high-intensity laser can harm sensitive skin.
6.  The laser passes over the entire scar area using short pulses.
7. Then the charcoal that forms on the surface is wiped off with clean cotton.
8. The process is then repeated in case of a deeper scar.
9. The laser heats the skin area, which stimulates the body to produce more collagen.
10. Once the procedure is complete, a soothing ointment and cold compress are applied to reduce any discomfort or pain.

After the procedure, candidates must follow the below instructions:

• Treated areas should not be exposed to sunlight for several weeks.
• Cold compresses or an ice pack should be applied to reduce pain and swelling after the procedure.
• An ointment is prescribed by a dermatologist to be applied to the treated area.
• Painkillers are prescribed if the patient feels pain or discomfort in the treated area. 
• The skin must be kept clean.
• Use a good moisturizer.
• A sunscreen with a high SPF should be applied to protect the skin from high UV rays.

The recovery period depends on the patient’s immune system and the treatment method used by the skin care specialist. The recovery period can range from a few weeks to months as well.
